About Olivia Pegge

Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?

University College Oxford Boat Club, Jono Cheesman.

What inspires you about sport?

Injuries aside, for the most part you get out what you put in effort wise - it is truly rewarding in that sense. Also, especially for rowing you build something over a long time with as a team and then can present your hard work at the start line.

Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race

My earliest memory of The Boat Race is sitting in my living room stuck in the midst of an intense rivalry between my dad (supporting Cambridge) and his sisters (supporting Oxford) cheering on both dark and light blue simultaneously. I didn’t really know what was going on, but I remember the energy in that room - unlike anything else I’d seen within my family before!

Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?

Definitely steady miles in the dark with the whole crew, even better if it’s dusk in the summer.

What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?

Being efficient with your time, preparing kit / food the night before and doing as much as you can of the mundane things like cooking, shopping etc with friends to make the most of every moment.
