About Mathilda Kitzmann
Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?
In my hometown of Rostock in Germany, I had four influential coaches teaching me first how to row and then how to be an athlete.
Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race
As a child I visited London with my parent, being obsessed with British culture. It happened to be the weekend of The Boat Race.
Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?
I relish in miles in the dark. Honestly, learned to love training, which feels like the main job of an athlete. Race days feel like the bonus, the cherry on top, where someone allows you to show everything you have worked on under the highest pressure you could possibly experience.
What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?
In every day life, it is a strong opposite but also complementary.
