About Kelly Brown

Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?

Tauranga Rowing Club, New Zealand - Jeff Johnson.

What inspires you about sport?

I love how rowing inspires me to push myself beyond my limits. Not a day goes by where I don't want to keep giving everything I have, just to see how far I can really go.

Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race

Growing up, I remember watching the highlights of The Boat Race on the evening news. I was always shocked by the sheer exhaustion each rower would push themselves to.

Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?

I love race day and fast pieces! Rowing is all about getting ready to go hard and fast and when that opportunity finally comes around it's the greatest feeling!

What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?

Always having a plan. I constantly keep track of what needs to be done and where I need to be, which helps me keep on top of my academic work alongside trainings. I also make sure I have time everyday to just not think about rowing or academics and just rest and recharge.
