About Charlotte Ebel
Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?
Syracuse University, USA where the Head Coach was Luke McGee, but the coach who taught me how to row was Ashley Johnson.
What inspires you about sport?
I'm inspired by the simplicity of sport -- hard work is directly correlated to personal improvement and success. In a world where few meritocracies remain, sport promises that you'll get out what you put in.
Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race
I watched my first Boat Race two years ago, when my Syracuse team watched one of our recently graduated teammates (Hannah Murphy) cox the women's Blue Boat to victory.
Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?
I love racing, and find motivation in the fierce competition of those moments when the lights are on. However, I derive my confidence on race day from the knowledge and faith in those hours of training that led up to the race itself. I see it as an inseparable cycle - you can't have one without the other, and I've learned to love and embrace this balance.
What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?
I live and die by my planner - I write down everything that I need to get done and when it needs to happen. This way, I won't forget about tasks or commitments no matter how hectic life gets, because I keep all my responsibilities in one central location.
