About Alexander Sullivan
Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?
St Joseph's College, Australia - Gregory Terrace, Brendan McGrath
What inspires you about sport?
Even in those days or weeks when it feels like nothing is going right, something will suddenly just click for a few minutes or a session, and the rowing just feels effortless. Those moments are what inspires me about sport and are why I keep rowing.
Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race
Watching it with my father back in Australia before starting rowing myself. I think there was a protest that year which made me realise how big an event the race was and how many people watched it.
Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?
I do my best to relish the long hours of training because, from experience, the time you spend doing the simple things with the team is what you miss most when the season is done.
What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?
Time management and prioritisation. You have to use your time as effectively as possible but also be willing to make decisions about what matters most to you when there simply isn’t enough time.
