About Oscar:

Why did you choose Biochemistry?

I find learning about how cellular life works on a molecular level fascinating, especially when linking it to my training when studying areas such as metabolism and energy production.

Why did you first try rowing?

I was going through a period of poor mental health and wanted something new to focus on and strive for excellence in.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Bob Cottell at The coastal rowing centre in Studland

Where else have you rowed?

Poole Amateur Rowing Club and Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

I represented my home gig rowing club (which was started by my parents) as the men’s A team captain at the world pilot gig championships. I have also medalled at the British offshore championships in the men’s quad as well as rowed as the Oxford lightweights spare pair.

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2003 when an almost lightweight blue boat beat Cambridge in one of the closest races I’ve ever seen.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

Everything. To make my family, friends, and every crew that came before proud would mean everything to me.
