Why did you choose BA BM BCh Medicine?

It’s quite hard to be a doctor without a medical degree! The medical profession has long been an interest and aspiration of mine, and the course at Oxford is particularly suited to the way I wanted to learn the subject.

Why did you first try rowing?

It was offered to us for free at school and I was already an athlete in a different sport. Almost thought ‘what do I have to lose?’ and never looked back from there.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Duncan Little at The King’s School Chester Rowing Club

Where else have you rowed?

It’s either been School or Oxford where I’ve rowed. Fairly linear career to keep track of.

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Winning the Isis-Goldie race in 2022 was something special. Our crew was both a dominant force on the water and really tight knit off the water, I’ll be tied to those guys for life. We broke the Isis-Goldie Mile post record (as far as I could ever find!) and had the 4th fastest recorded time in that race.
Being elected to lead this team into the race this year is however the privilege of a lifetime. My goal is to create the environment in which the team can thrive and pursue being their best selves. The results will follow if I can get that job right.

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2003 is the one for me, it really epitomises how close this contest is and everything our club is about. It’s never over until it’s over.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

Everything, simply put. The whole club is invested in me and I’m invested in this whole club. Winning this year would be the highlight of a lifetime, not just a career.
