About Lucy:

Why did you first try rowing?

I was very tall when I was younger, and prone to injuries in running-related sports, so a GP recommended I try rowing, due to my height! Phil (Jones) saw potential in me, and encouraged me to trial for the junior national team.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Yale University, Leander Rowing Club

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

2019 silver medal at the U23 World Rowing Championships in the women’s eight
Getting the Yale Varsity into the Grand Final at NCAAs along with our 2V and V4+ — something that hasn’t happened since 2009

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

The 2016 women’s boat race. It was a combination of skilled and plucky coxing, as well as long, powerful strokes in the boat by the crew that saw Oxford take a remarkable win, and saw the Cambridge women almost sink. It amazed everyone, and I have some good friends who were in the boat.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

It would be amazing. It would be a culmination of hard physical work, and group effort to create a fantastic team culture. I want to win for the women around me, as they inspire me everyday.
