About Joseph:

Why did you choose Biomedical Science?

What we do is very similar to the first three years of the medicine course and I’ve chosen to focus on the cells and physiology side. I find the human body fascinating and learning about the way all the physiological systems interact to produce great human feats such as winning the boat race is a pretty cool thing to get to do every day. Treating patients didn’t sound like so much fun.

Why did you first try rowing?

I used to kayak and always enjoyed water related sports so when I moved to St Paul’s which has an incredible rowing programme it felt like a natural step to try it out and see what it felt like to go backwards instead of forwards.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

MJPS at St Paul’s School

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Qualifying for Henley Royal Regatta in the Fawley in 2019 and the PA in 2021, Winning the spare pairs race in 2022, 2nd place in Champ 4- at BUCS in 2022 and qualifying for EUSA

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2012, It’s just such a crazy historic race with so much going on and so closely fought with all the drama too.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

It would be the culmination of 4 years of hard work and would mean so much to continue the legacy that the OBI have left behind and carry that forward to the next generation to show that OUBC is the best boat club in the world.
