About Jonny:

Why did you choose MSc Genomic Medicine?

I am attempting to use genetic information to engineer gene therapies that are safer and more effective than existing alternative treatments.

Why did you first try rowing?

I won an ergo competition during my last year at school and I wanted to give it a go in Durham where the sport was quite popular.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Edward Bowman at Grey College Boat Club

Where else have you rowed?

Vancouver Rowing Club, Canada. Nottingham Rowing Club, UK.

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Getting to the Friday of Henley Royal Regatta Qualifiers with my friends

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2003, I fell in love with this sport because of the competitive nature. This race is the perfect example of pushing all the way to the finish line. It is also made better by the fact OUBC won.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

The ultimate underdog story. Growing up as the son of a refugee and being raised by a single mother, getting into this position was not expected and wasn’t something I ever thought about. Winning this race would be satisfying to say the least.
