About Harriett:

Why did you choose MEng Engineering Science?

I enjoy engineering as it is a subject that allows you to apply maths and physics to real life problems. I have chosen to specialize in machine learning, control theory and software engineering which are areas that I find particularly interesting.

Why did you first try rowing?

I went along to the freshers week Exeter college boat club BBQ. Although I didn’t initially want to row, I ended up joining ECBC as it was something everyone else seemed to be doing!

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Rachel Cannon, Louis Nares at Exeter College, Oxford

Where else have you rowed?

OUBC Development squad

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Getting blades in Torpids 2022 having rowed for less than two terms.

Having the chance to row at HWR with the development squad in my first year.

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2023 – watching the women’s race knowing several of the athletes was unbelievably inspiring. Being aware of how much training and commitment it had taken made me realize just how special the boat race is.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

As someone who only picked up rowing at Oxford, winning the Boat race would be the culmination of 3 years of hard work doing a sport that I have fallen in love with. I would be so proud of the other athletes that I have been training with who have made the experience so special already.
