About Grace:

Why did you choose BA History?

I specialise in Anglo-Saxon and Viking history. I enjoy exploring the relationship between people, space and time, and also have an interest in voyaging and viking ships- especially reading accounts that remind me of rowing today, such as navigating with broken rudders and that oarsmen might have had personalised oar handles. It reminds me that there isn’t so much separating us and them and that we share many experiences in such different ways, navigating the same rivers in different times.

Why did you first try rowing?

I wasn’t very interested in sport or rowing but I was encouraged by members of the college because I was tall and I enjoyed the social side.

OUWLRC for some of last season

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Captain and stroke of our 2023 blades winning summer eights crew. It was the perfect end to my college rowing journey, in a crew of people I’d learnt to row with. College rowing will always mean a lot to me.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

I’d want to win for my teammates and to make my college rowing community proud. I would be representing Trinity as well as Oxford. It would teach me that I really can achieve anything despite not coming from a rowing background.
