About Tina Macaulay
Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?
Regent's Park College - Tom Coles.
What inspires you about sport?
I really appreciate the drive and discipline it requires to perform to a high level in any sport, however, I feel inspired by people participating at all levels in sport. For example, as a swimming teacher, some of the people who inspired me the most were my adult beginners who had taken the initiative to learn a completely new skill and who committed to improving this skill every week. I love to see this drive and determination emerge at all levels.
Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race
Having not been a rower before university, I didn't actively engage with The Boat Race until I started studying but I do remember my dad making me watch the footage of the swimmer in 2012.
Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?
I live for race days because I have trust in the effects of the long hours in the gym and long miles in the dark.
What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?
Discipline with time management, efficient studying methods, and strong coffee.
