About Emily Molins
Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?
North Suburban Crew - Heather LaVigne and Josh Karney, then Loyola Academy - Matt Baldino and Mike Kelley.
What inspires you about sport?
I'm most inspired by the tangible sense of personal strength sport affords us. In athletics, we find a space to challenge our bodies and minds and to discover resilience that we may carry into every facet of life.
Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race
While The Boat Race must have come up in conversation in high school, it wasn’t until midway through my college years that I remember watching it for the first time in 2021 (featuring some Stanford alum appearances!). While still under COVID quarantine, I remember viewing it as a glimmer of tradition and community at a time when so much of sport felt uncertain.
Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?
Definitely the hours in the gym and miles in the dark (though hopefully featuring a sunrise!). Being able to spend each day moving, outside, with friends is such a joy.
What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?
If you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work. Yes, organization matters; communication matters; sleep matters; wellness matters. But once I recognize what a privilege it is to be in a position where my biggest stressors are research and racing, balancing the two feels less like a management conundrum and more like a gift.
