About Isobel Campbell

Where did you learn to row and who was your first coach?

Northfield Mount Hermon — Lou Kinder.

What inspires you about sport?

I love how the pursuit of a shared goal can unite an entire group, driving each person to push themselves and each other towards winning.

Explain your earliest memory of The Boat Race

I only learned about the boat race when I committed to Cal. I knew that the Washington v Cal duel was infamous and I was curious if other similar races existed - and I landed on The Boat Race. Ever since, I have made sure to stay updated on Cambridge’s victories.

Do you relish in hours in the gym and miles in the dark, or do you live for race days?

I love grinding in the gym. I thrive off of long and steady workouts and the racing is just a reward!

What's the secret to managing elite-level sport with studying at one of the top universities in the world?

Although I haven’t done it at Cambridge, at Cal I crafted a to-do list at the beginning of each week so nothing was ever forgotten (for the most part) - that was my only secret sauce.
