About Toby:

Why did you choose DPhil in Medical Sciences?

I study signalling in immune cells – this will hopefully lead to developments in immunotherapies to treat diseases such as cancer. The potential for my work to help future patients is the major appeal!

Why did you first try rowing?

I came to watch my friends at Summer Eights in Oxford and was instantly hooked.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Thomas Hole and Geordie Macleod (OUBC 2011-2013!) at St Edmund Hall, Oxford (SEHBC)

Where else have you rowed?

Rowed with the OULRC Dev Squad Summer 2023

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

The first time I made it into the SEHBC First VIII and making it into the OULRC Dev Squad crew

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2022 Men’s Boat Race – the first Oxford win since I started at Oxford and an incredible crew to watch

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

Years of hard work paying off!
