About Thomas:

Why did you choose PhD in Physics?

I find the process of designing and conducting experiments to uncover completely new aspects of the physical world incredibly rewarding and love the problem solving associated with it. I’ve also always had an interest in both physics and computation and I find that my degree fits nicely in the intersection between the two.

Why did you first try rowing?

Ted Haley, the rowing coach at my school, happened to be my advisor in 8th grade, and suggested that I give it a shot once I started high school

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Ted Haley at St. Alban’s School

Where else have you rowed?

Hamilton College, Lady Margaret Boat Club (LMBC), CUBC

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Winning the Goldie Race in 2023. Other honorable mentions would be winning Hamilton College’s first NY State Championships medal, and coming 2nd in the senior 8+ at SRAA Nationals twice while at school.

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2023. There’s nothing better than celebrating with the friends and teammates you’ve trained with all year.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

After all the work that goes into preparing for the race, everything.
