About Dylan:

Why did you choose DPhil in Computational Discovery?

Applying computational methods, such as machine learning, to life sciences discovery. My research involves using neural networks to predict antibiotic resistance. The interdisciplinary nature of the course is what appeals to me most.

Why did you first try rowing?

My mates and I all gave it a try as freshers during undergrad.

Who introduced you to the sport of rowing?

Jono Cheesman at University College Boat Club, Oxford

Where else have you rowed?

Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club, Quintin Boat Club

What are your proudest rowing achievements?

Stroked the 8+ in the Temple in 2021 and the 4- in the Wyfold in 2022 at Henley Royal Regatta.

Do you have a favourite Boat Race? Which one and why?

2020 Lightweight Men’s Boat Race. It was my first year of trialling and whilst I wasn’t in the boat, seeing your mates win and being part of a winning squad is fantastic. It was also just before Covid so it was great to be able to freely celebrate before lockdown started the following week.

What would winning The Boat Race mean to you?

It would be the highest sporting achievement of my life so far.
