Chief Coach to leave Cambridge University Boat Club

Duncan Holland, Chief Coach of Cambridge University Boat Club, will be leaving CUBC on 31 May 2008 at the end of a three-year contract.

Robin Waterer, Senior Treasurer of the CUBC, said, “The CUBC are very grateful to Duncan for his efforts and contribution to the Club over the past three years. He prepared three strong Blue Boats and led CUBC crews to success in other national and international competitions. We wish him all the best for the future.”

The CUBC is not yet in a position to confirm Duncan’s replacement in the Chief Coach role. Rob Baker, Assistant Coach, will have responsibility for leading CUBC’s 2008 Henley campaign.

Duncan Holland came to the CUBC in 2005 following appointments with the Dutch, Swiss and New Zealand national teams. In autumn 2005, Duncan led a CUBC crew to a resounding victory in the E.ON Hanse Cup in Germany, defeating British, Dutch, German and American national eights. Duncan’s 2007 Blue Boat won the Boat Race, and CUBC won 2 out of 3 Goldie-Isis races during his tenure. Duncan also helped prepare several CUBC oarsmen for international competition, and a number of his athletes are expected to represent Great Britain, Germany and Canada in the Beijing Olympics this summer.
