The Trial Eights for The 2015 BNY Mellon Boat Races season will take place on Tuesday 9th December for the Women’s Boat Clubs and on Wednesday 10th December for the Men’s Boat Clubs.
Trial Eights is a key step in each Club’s preparations for racing in April, as it is the only opportunity the athletes have to race the full Championship Course side-by-side before race day. As a full dress-rehearsal, each squad splits into two evenly matched crews as the athletes pit themselves against their teammates. The coaches will be looking for as close a race as possible to see their athletes tested fully, but will also look to see which combinations work well under racing pressure.
The Women’s Boat Clubs will race first on Tuesday 9th, with Oxford University Women’s Boat Club racing first at 13:15 on the equivalent to The Newton Women’s Boat Race tide. At 14:30, the second of the Women’s Trial Eights races will take place, featuring two crews from Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club.
On Wednesday 10th December the Trial Eights races for the Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club will take place. Oxford will again race first at 13:35, but this time it will be Cambridge who shall have the opportunity to race on the tide equivalent to The BNY Mellon Boat Race tide, starting at 14:50.
The BNY Mellon Boat Races themselves will take place April 11th 2015. The BNY Mellon Boat Race will begin at 5:50pm, whilst the Newton Women’s Boat Race will begin at 4:50pm.
