The annual Head of the River Fours is back on the Tideway this weekend.
The Races will take place over the same course as The BNY Mellon Boat Races, the Championship Course, but in the opposite direction. Crews will compete in four-person boats from Mortlake to Putney in a time trial fashion. This is the only event in the season where both pairs of squads can be directly compared, so The Boat Race coaches will use this event as part of their selection process.
Oxford University Boat Club and Cambridge University Boat Club will once again enter multiple crews into this year’s Elite 4+. OUBC will put forward 4 crews against CUBC’s 3, with returning Blues spread across two boats. The Oxford President, Morgan Gerlak, will race in Isis IV, with Henry Hoffstot, Cambridge President in Goldie BC 1. OUBC will also enter a crew into Elite 4- and Sen 4-, with no competition from CUBC whose final boat will compete in IM1 4-.
Oxford University Women’s Boat Club have entered 3 crews with Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club entering four, however neither clubs will compete against each other at Fours Head. OUWBC’s coxless quad will see three returning Blues, including their current President Maddy Badcott, race in the W IM1 4x-. Two other boats will be entered into the W IM1 4+, with OUWBC II featuring GB Rowing Triallists Ruth Siddorn and Morgan Baynham-Williams. CUWBC will be entering two coxed and two coxless fours. Returning Blues Ashton Brown and Daphne Martschenko will be racing in CUWBC I with this season’s President Hannah Roberts in CUWBC II, both entered into the W Elite 4-. Both coxswains competing in the W Elite 4+ are new to CUWBC this year.
Racing will start at 12:45 on Saturday 7th November. More information can be found at: www.hor4s.org.uk
