The Boat Race Company Ltd. would like to wish Good Luck to all Oxbridge Olympians rowing at the London 2012 Games. There are a total of 15 athletes who have raced in The Boat Race and Women’s Boat Race who will be competing at Dorney Rowing Lake.
Eight of these athletes will be racing for Team GB across five different boat categories. Blues from four other nationalities (Australia, Canada, Netherlands and the USA) will be looking to overturn the home nation in the pair, four and eight.
Tom James, Pete Reed and Andy Triggs-Hodge, gold medallists in the Four in Beijing 2008, have reunited to go for Gold once more. With a strong start to the season in the first two World Cups, they were just pipped to Gold in Munich by a strong Australian outfit. Looking to get in amongst this Aussie-GB rivalry will also be the crew from the USA which features Dark Blue Charlie Cole.
Constantine Louloudis has come back from a slight back injury to line up with Tom Ransley as part of the GB Eight. Also competing in the Eight, for the Netherlands will be 2010 Oxford President Sjoerd Hamburger, and for America will be Light Blue Jake Cornelius. Annie Vernon, Beijing silver-medallist and Cambridge Blue, will be competing for Team GB in the Women’s Eight.
Oxbridge Rowers feature across four different crews in the Pair competition, with Cambridge teammates George Nash and Silas Stafford lining up against each other, and against Dark Blues Scott Frandsen and Brodie Buckland. Brit Nash, American Stafford, Canadian Frandsen and Australian Buckland will all be looking to bring to end the dominance of the Kiwi Pair. Selected as official Spare for the Canadian sweep squad is Light Blue Peter McLelland.
Oxford’s Tom Solesbury will be racing for Team GB in the Quadruple Scull. The Quad have been improving solidly throughout the World Cup season, just missing out on a bronze medal in the latest regatta in Munich by seven tenths of a second.
A full list of Olympians is below. The annual University Boat Race has been a nursery of international oarsmen since the nineteenth century, and from the late twentieth century it has also been a finishing school for Olympians from several countries.
The 2013 BNY Mellon Boat Race will take place at 16:30 on 31st March 2013.
