Three Boat Race triallists all won medals at the Australian Youth Olympic Rowing Regatta. Oxford rowers Maxie Scheske and Anastasia Chitty, and Cambridge cox Ed Bosson were selected to compete in a strong GB Team at the Youth Olympic Festival.
Ed Bosson coxed the GB Men’s Eight, who won their heat comfortably to progress to the final, where they came up against strong Australian and New Zealand opposition. A close race for the medals, saw the GB crew race strongly to the Bronze.
Both Maxie and Anastasia competed in multiple events, and came away with multiple medals. Both women featured in the GB Eight, which, like their male counterparts, took the Bronze medal. Maxie also raced in two sculling events – winning Silver in the Women’s Quadruple scull, and coming a close fourth place in the Lightweight Double. Anastasia featured on the podium in both of her other races, winning Gold in the Women’s Four and Silver in the Women’s Pair.
The three of them joined 1700 athletes from 30 different countries to compete at the five-day festival of elite youth sport which ran from 16-20 January. The festival, held every four years at the Sydney Olympic venues across 17 sports, including rowing, has seen past winners go on to become Olympic Champions.
