In the first Tideway racing of the season, it was the Dark Blue crews who marginally came out on top, as overall the Oxbridge crews impressed in a highly competitive Fuller’s Head of the River Fours.
The top Oxford Men’s Boat, Isis III, which featured double Olympic medallist Malcolm Howard, Olympic bronze medallist Constantine Louloudis, three time returning Blue Karl Hudspith, American international Michael di Santo, and cox Laurence Harvey, won the Elite Coxed Four category by 30 seconds, over the top Cambridge boat, of returning Blue and President Steve Dudek, Mike Thorp, Helge Gruetjen, Henry Hoffstot and cox Ian Middleton, which raced strongly to second place. Both crews beat an impressive Leander four, featuring World Champions from the GB Eight Light Blue Tom Ransley, Dark Blue Peter Reed, and Will Satch, Dan Ritchie and cox Phelan Hill, into third place. With both squads showcasing impressive strength and depth, other notable results were ISIS IV’s 4th place in Elite Coxed Four, Cambridge II which won the IM1 Coxless Four, and Cambridge III which won the IM1 Coxed Four.
The two top coxed Fours in the rival Newton Women’s Boat Race squads were separated by just 10 seconds, as again Oxford got the better of their Light Blue counterparts. OUWBC I, comprising President Maxie Scheske, returning Blue Anastasia Chitty, Elizabeth Fenje, Nadine Graedel Iberg and cox Olivia Cleary, completed the course 10 seconds ahead of the best performing Cambridge crew, CUWBC III, which featured entirely returning Blues from their unsuccessful 2013 campaign – Emily Day, Holly Game, Claire Watkins, Melissa Wilson and coxed by President Esther Momcilovic.Full results for both Oxbridge Men’s and Women’s squads are listed below.
