Cath Bishop has recently been announced as the new Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club Chair ahead of The 2014 Newton Women’s Boat Race.
A graduate of Pembroke College, Cambridge, Cath competed in The Women’s Boat Race twice and subsequently represented the British Rowing Team at three Olympics, adding World Champion and Olympic Silver medallist to her list of honours. Whilst at Cambridge she gained a BA (Hons) in Modern & Medieval Languages (German & Russian) and was part of The Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club from 1991 -1993. With over ten years’ experience as a career diplomat specialising in conflict stabilisation, Cath now works as a speaker to companies and other organisations on leadership, teamwork and resilience with a particular interest in helping women to reach their potential.
Speaking after the announcement, Cath said “The time I spent rowing at CUWBC as a student formed the foundation for my Olympic rowing career that ensued. I am delighted to take over the reins as Chair of CUWBC to help the next generation of Cambridge women rowers to develop and reach their potential. It is particularly exciting to take on this role at such a historic time as the Newton Women’s Boat Race moves to the Tideway in 2015 alongside The BNY Mellon Boat Race.”
The Newton Women’s Boat Race will be raced at Henley on 30th March. The BNY Mellon Boat Race will take place a week later, on 6th April 2014.
