Three Blues who raced in The 2013 BNY Mellon Boat Race have been selected to compete for Team GB at the second Rowing World Cup of the season at Eton Dorney.
Paul Bennett and Karl Hudspith who rowed at 5 and 6 respectively in the 2013 victorious Oxford Blue Boat will compete together in a Pair, while Cambridge’s Henry Fieldman will cox one of the two Men’s Eights. This will be the first time that Bennett and Hudspith have represented their country at senior international level, having impressed at final trials where they finished in sixth place. Fieldman has previously coxed the GB Eight at senior level, at the European Championships in 2012, and winning Gold in the E.On Hanse Cup in 2010 – the only crew that beat the German Men’s Eight Olympic Champions in the last Olympic cycle.
A number of other former Blues have also been selected in the largest GB Rowing Team of all-time to race at a World Cup. Olympic double Gold medallists and Oxford Blues Andrew Triggs-Hodge and Pete Reed will combine with Cambridge Olympic Bronze medallist Tom Ransley in the other Eight, which will be the top GB Men’s sweep boat. Zoe de Toledo, who coxed Oxford in the dramatic 2012 Race, will take charge of the Women’s Eight.
The second Rowing World Cup of 2013 will take place at Eton Dorney between the 21st and 23rd June.
