Today at Isleworth Crown Court, Trenton Oldfield was found guilty of causing a Public Nuisance following his actions during The 2012 Boat Race. He will be sentenced on 19th October.
Statement from David Searle:
On behalf of The Boat Race Company Limited, and the Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Clubs I would like to say that we are satisfied with the verdict in court today. Mr Oldfield endangered not only his own life, but the lives and wellbeing of the crews when he swam into the path of the Race. The 2012 Boat Race will be remembered by many for the wrong reasons, because of the misguided actions of one individual. What we will remember is the great maturity shown by the two crews, the quick thinking of the Umpires who prevented disaster, and the support of the public who showed their strong disapproval and disavowal of Mr Oldfield’s actions.
