Light and Dark Blue Rivalry Heats Up at The Xchanging Boat Race Gala Dinner
Last night The 2012 Xchanging Boat Race Gala Dinner was held at the stunning Hurlingham Club, just a stone’s throw away from where the Race will start in 8 days time in Putney.
Hosted by Sir Matthew Pinsent and Hazel Irvine, guests were joined by the two Blue Boat crews who will Race on April 7th, for a unique insight into the two camps just days away from this year’s Race and an opportunity to get involved with the oldest rivalry in British sporting history, Light versus Dark Blue.
It is one of the few times during The Boat Race season that the crews come face-to-face with each other, and both sides took the opportunity to embrace the rivalry during our “Question of The Boat Race Quiz”. In the final head-to-head, the leading Dark Blue table took the honours, but the Light Blue tables triumphed overall – with Boat Race and general sporting knowledge of both athletes and guests tested to their limits.
The evening was also an opportunity for The Boat Race to highlight the great work done by the Official Boat Race Charity, London Youth Rowing. Generosity throughout the evening, and a particularly successful Silent Auction, meant that the evening raised a lot of money for a great cause.
The 2012 Xchanging Boat Race takes place in just 8 days time on Saturday 7 April 2012 at 2.15pm.
