Personal bio:
Already has a BSc and MSc in Bioengineering from Stanford. Says there is no
other place in the world he could achieve the level of study and research
that he is enjoying at Oxford as well as training and rowing. Currently
working on medical imaging at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. This
includes a study of how the brain and heart metabolise energy. In
particular, he is studying how a low carbohydrate diet affects the amount
of energy available to the brain. Was a World U23 gold medallist in the
eight with the USA (2002) and won the B Final at the World senior champs in
Milan in 2003 in the coxless four. Also competed at the Athens Olympic
Games in a four. Pulled the top ergo scores in the US squad in 2002 and
2003. His family have since all followed Jamie into rowing. His brother,
Griffin (aged 22) rowed in the Harvard lightweight eight, his sister Janet
(aged 19) is in the Middlebury crew (a college in Vermont) and his brother
Chip (aged 16) is rowing at Andover Academy. Even his parents have taken up
the sport as novices.
