Previously gained a BA (Hons) in Human Sciences, also at Oxford. Took up
rowing at Oxford where he was Captain of St John’s Boat Club in 2003/4,
sat in the five seat in the winning lightweight Blue Boat in 2005 and was
President of Oxford University Lightweight Rowing Club and stroke of the
winning Blue Boat in 2006 – setting a course record. Represented Great
Britain at the 2006 World University Championships where he was a silver
medallist in the lightweight four. Alex’s family moved to Belfast because
of his mother’s job there. When he was 15, the family moved back to
England but Alex decided to stay on and take his A Levels there.
