Born in Hammersmith. In the second year of a chemistry degree. Took up
rowing at St Paul’s School where he rowed for a year before coxing. Was
in the first eight in 2003 and 2004 and coxed Robin Ejsmond-Frey (current
OUBC President). Was cox to the English junior men’s eight in 2003 for
the Home Countries regatta but decided, in his first year at Oxford, to
race with the lightweight squad. Went on to win with the Lightweight Blue
Boat and set a course record.
