Studying the Science and Medicine of Athletic Performance after graduating
from Yale with a BSc in biology. Started rowing in his freshman year at
UCLA and “fell in love with it” before transferring to complete his
degree at Yale. Rowed in the Yale first eight for three years and stroked
the Yale boat in the Yale-Harvard race and the IRA Championships (American
Collegiate Championships) and won the Champion 8 at Canadian Henley with
Vesper Boat club in the summer of 2006. Was selected for the men’s coxed
four at Vesper to race in the US World Championships Trials. At Rocklin
High School, Matthew was team captain for track and field and soccer as
well as being a Valedictorian. At Yale he was Associate Editor of the Yale
Journal of Medicine and Law and was awarded a Mellon research grant for
bioethics. Loves playing chess. Plans to enter medical school after Oxford
and wants to become an orthopaedic surgeon as well as seeking to train with
the US rowing squad.
