An ex second-row rugby player, James began rowing whilst in the lower-sixth
of Royal Grammar School in Guildford. He rowed for Trinity College
throughout 2007 winning the Lents Headship . This is James’ second year
of a three year Mathematics course. There is a strong Oxbridge history in
his family: his father went to Oxford and his mother went to Cambridge. He
has 2 sisters, one of whom was an undergraduate at Oxford and the other at
Cambridge. His girlfriend is currently at Oxford and his grandfather went
to Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He is an ex-lifeguard, was a badminton
coach and also found time to teach 7 year old children in Japan during the
summer holidays
