Personal bio:
Rowed in the 2005 Cambridge Blue Boat and was elected President of
Cambridge University Boat Club in the summer of 2005. Also part of the
victorious Cambridge crew that won the 2005 Ladies’ Plate at Henley Royal
Regatta. Was the first Tasmanian to compete in the Boat Race for Cambridge.
Previously studied medicine in Australia and worked as a doctor there for
three years. Came to Cambridge to study for a PhD in the Department of
Medical Genetics. Edwards’ work is focusing on the role of intercellular
membrane trafficking in motor neuron degeneration. One of Edwards’ first
rowing coaches was Tim McClaren who is now part of the Cambridge coaching
team each year. Edwards’ went on to become part of Australia’s world
junior and world U23 championships teams. His sister and brother both rowed
for Australia.
