Personal bio:
Already qualified as a medical doctor. Wanted to live and study abroad but
was previously unable to do so because of his rowing commitments with the
German national squad. Sees Cambridge as a huge opportunity to fulfil that
choice at a world-renowned institution. May develop his studies here into a
PhD. Wants to specialise in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Began his
rowing career at Wertheim Rowing Club. His parents and grandparents also
rowed. His international rowing achievements, which began in 1993 with a
world junior men’s four title, have included a world championships senior
gold, silver and bronze in the men’s four in 2002 and 2001 and 2003
respectively as well as two overall world cup titles in the men’s four in
2002 and 2003. Was a Henley winner in 1999 in the eight. His crew was
tipped to win a medal at the Athens Olympic Games of 2004 but was struck by
illness four weeks before. Sebastian went on to win the B Final. Also
competed in the German four at the 2005 World Championships. Sebastian is a
five times winner of the annual Canal Cup – four times with a German
national eight and once with Cambridge in 2005. Enjoys cross-county skiing,
sailing (especially catamaran sailing) and windsurfing in his spare time.
