Came to Cambridge to further his studies, having previously studied
dentistry for five years at Kings College, London. At Cambridge he will
study psychology and sociology as part of his course which will help
compare decay rates to sociological patterns. Will probably specialise in
dental public health later. Took up rowing in 1997 at Derby RC. Had
previously played rugby but broke his leg playing and a friend suggested he
shifted to rowing. Was also previously a junior county discus thrower and
rowed at the University of London where he was coached by Rusty Williams
and Stuart Whitelaw. Was a winner of the BUSA (British Universities Sports
Association) regatta in 2003 (eight) and 2004 (pair). His middle brother
Chris played canoe-polo for Great Britain. His eldest brother studied at
Cambridge and rowed at St Catherines
