Came to Cambridge because it was the best academically for his course. Took
up rowing at school to get fit for rugby. Went on to win bronze in the
junior men’s four at the 2005 World Junior Championships. Has a younger
brother and sister. His brother won a silver medal for Great Britain in the
2006 Coupe de La Jeunesse in the men’s eight. His father, Jamie MacLeod,
competed as a rower for Great Britain in two Olympic Games. Alastair was in
Cambridge’s Development Squad last year and did not trial for Goldie or
the Blue Boat.
