Wanne is carrying out research for a PhD in Plant Science at Cambridge. His research will look at carbon allocation within plants, such as maize, looking at ways of ensuring the most nutritious parts of plants are in the bits that are being harvested for consumption. Wanne has a BSc and MSc in Plant Sciences from Wageningen University in his native Netherlands. He studied classical music while at high school, training on the violin and recorder at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. Wanne took up competitive rowing at university in the Netherlands, rowing in the freshman’s eight at Wageningen and was President of the university boat club in 2004 and 2005. His brother, Peter, rows at the Okeanos club in Amsterdam.
