Tobias enrolled to study Modern Languages in 2005 but decided to
concentrate solely on his studies in his first year. Having now decided to
try out rowing, Tobias could potentially emulate his Great Uncle Kenneth
Garnett who was a Boat Race winner with Cambridge in 1914 but who then died
during the First World War. Previously, Tobias has won gold at the Coupe de
La Jeunesse with Great Britain in the coxed four in 2004 and was in the
British eight at the 2005 World Junior Championships. Tobias was a member
of the GB National Youth Sailing Squad but preferred rowing because he
wanted to be involved in a team sport. His younger sister, Amelia, has
continued in sailing and competed this year in the European Junior
Championships. Tobias has sung in choirs at school and has performed
Evensong at various locations. He is now part of a close harmony group in
Cambridge. There is a tradition in the family of studying at Cambridge and
particularly at Trinity College.
