CAMBRIDGE v MOLESEY FIXTURE
A Cambridge University ‘selection’ crew took on a Molesey Boat on the
Tideway course today, 22 days before the 154th Boat Race.
Tobias Garnett was in the number four seat, rather than Pole Bartosz
Szczyrba, with whom he is contesting the seat for the Race on 29 March.
In a fixture which comprised three pieces of four minutes, Cambridge were
victorious each time – a result that builds the Light Blues’ confidence
ahead of this year’s Race.
In the first Race, Cambridge took the Surrey station and Molesey the
Middlesex station, just east of Putney Bridge. Cambridge started strongly
and as early as the Thames Rowing Club had surged into a one-length lead.
They extended this advantage into a four-length victory margin when they
finished by Fulham Football Club.
The University eight then went on to win by two lengths and one-and-a-half
lengths in the following two races, ending just short of Chiswick Bridge.
