Cambridge take on an eight with pedigree

The Molesey eight announced to race against Cambridge today in the Light Blues’ last head-to-head fixture before The Boat Race, sponsored by Xchanging and taking place on April 7th, is bristling with international stars as well as a few former Blues.

The boat will be stroked by Andy Hodge, now a double world champion in the men’s four and a former Oxford winning Blue. It will be coxed by Acer Nethercott, a multi-Boat Race former winner with Oxford, and it will include Mike Blomquist, an American who also featured in an Oxford Boat Race winning squad before going on to become a world champion in the USA eight.

Jonno Devlin, Simon Fieldhouse, Hugo Lee, Tom Lucy and Mohammed Sbihi complete the crew. All are GB internationals at junior, U23 or senior level. Sbihi recently won golds at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

Cambridge, meanwhile, will race in a seat order unchanged since the Crew Announcement on 12th March. Their line-up features Sebastian Schulte and Thorsten Englemann, who are reigning world champions as well as GB Olympians Tom James and Kieran West. The eight will be coxed by Russ Glenn who recently also boxed for Cambridge in the varsity match.

Tomorrow, Oxford take to the Thames to encounter a Leander Club eight which is also likely to be brimful of GB senior international talent.
