7.2 million tune in to view Boat Race in the UK on ITV

ITV’s live coverage of the 152nd Boat Race, sponsored by Xchanging, was watched by a peak audience of 7.2 million viewers; an increase of 1.2 million on 2005 coverage.

The race, which began at 4.35pm and was won by Oxford by five lengths over Cambridge in a time of 18 minutes 26 seconds, averaged 6.5 million viewers (40% viewing share).

ITV’s two-hour programme (3.30-5.30pm) presented by Gabby Logan from the banks of the Thames in Putney, averaged 4.6 million (30% share).

Coverage of the 2005 Boat Race, the first broadcast by ITV, peaked at six million viewers with a programme average of 3.6 million.
