Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, he began rowing as a ten-year-old. He has competed in the Junior and U23 Worlds as well as the Coupe de la Jeunesse. Martin supports Leinster Rugby Club and follows Gaelic Football. He enjoys also playing chess and curling.
